Energy Plus: Energy for Climate Resilience in Gilgit – Baltistan (GB) and Upper & Lower Chitral districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
To support green and inclusive economic growth in Pakistan, the European Union provided Pakistan with grants in 2023. One of the components is Energy Plus “ Energy for Climate Resilience focused on Gilgit-Baltistan province and Upper & Lower Chitral districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”. This programe will create resilient hydropower facilities and support more efficient use of energy for a sustainable transition to renewable energy. It will also contribute to a more sustainable management of natural resources through a massive tree planting programme. Additionally, it will strengthen provincial government capacity for policy-making, with a focus on participatory planning, implementation and monitoring in energy and natural resources sectors. This project is in implementation stage under Aga Khan Foundation by the NPAK, AKRSP, AKHA and AP as implementing Partners.
NPAK Energy’s key interventions of Energy Plus project focus on capacity building of GB & KP governments in shape of development of Energy Master Plans for GB & Chitral, increasing renewable energy generation capacities, Construction and Rehabilitation of Transmission & Distribution (T&D) networks and Utilities in Hunza, Establishment of energy Meter Lab, and Customers affordability program.
