Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Existing 3 MW Misgar Hydropower Plant
The existing 3 MW Misgar Hydropower Project was commissioned in 2014 and is the largest hydropower station in District Hunza. However, the plant is currently operating at a reduced plant factor of approximately 21% due to several operational and structural deficiencies.

Existing Conditions
The power station takes its design discharge of 6 m³/s by combining flows from two nullahs, Dilsun and Klik, both of which carry highly silt-laden water.
The existing intake structures lack essential components, including weirs and desilting mechanisms, resulting in excessive silt entering the forebay and turbines.
Mild steel (MS) pipes installed as feeder pipes between the intakes and the forebay have undergone severe abrasion due to continuous silt flow, causing leakage at multiple locations.
Furthermore, the forebay structure has deteriorated significantly, with reinforcement bars exposed at several places, indicating serious structural instability.
Need for Rehabilitation
Operating the power station under these conditions not only results in substantial energy losses but also poses significant safety risks to plant operators and nearby communities.
Proposed Rehabilitation
Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, NPAK Energy Limited has proposed the rehabilitation of the project. The proposed intervention will restore the plant to its designed performance and inject additional energy into the power system within a short timeframe.
Project Timeline
The project is currently at the tendering stage and is targeted for completion by December 2027.
